Users of the TU8000 will not be particularly impressed by the contrast or color of the display, while it does not perform poorly in any category.
Using an SDR signal in Movie mode and setting the Black Level to Low in the TV’s External Device Manager menu (under General settings, not Picture settings), the TU8000 achieved peak brightnesses of 244.015cd/m2 with a full white field and 242.827cd/m2 with an 18 percent white field in testing.
This shows that the TV’s backlight system makes use of edge lighting and does not engage in any zone-based dimming or boosting, as indicated by the dotted line.
The black level was low in the testing, averaging 0.034 cd/m2 and resulting in an effective contrast ratio of 7,177:1, which was considered low.

It may not be nearly as stunning as last year’s RU8000, but with a little care and attention to the picture options on offer, you can still achieve a visual performance that is excellent value for money despite its lower resolution.
