When it comes to specifications, these two phones are more similar than we would have liked.

This is due to the LG G6’s usage of an aged Snapdragon 821 processor, which is only marginally better than the older Qualcomm Snapdragon feature 820 featured in the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

Furthermore, all three devices have a good 4GB of RAM, while we anticipate that many new phones will begin launching with a larger 6GB of RAM.

To be fair, Samsung’s phone is a year older; the new Galaxy S8 may be different.

Still, there’s something to be claimed for the tiny speed gain the Snapdragon 821 provides over the 820, which should help the new G6 run faster — or stay relevant for a little longer.

To compound matters further, not all Galaxy S7 models include the Snapdragon 820; instead, the international variant uses Samsung’s own Exynos 8890.

In most benchmarks, the 8890 was found to be slightly more powerful than the Snapdragon 820, but significantly less powerful than the Snapdragon 821 – indicating that the LG G6 retains the advantage here.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge both have 32GB and 64GB storage options, whereas the G6 only has a 64GB version in some locations.

However, all three contain a MicroSD card slot, allowing you to expand the storage if desired.

1. Design

Overall, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge share a pretty similar design.

They both have a distinctly “Samsung” appearance, with a bottom-mounted home button/fingerprint sensor and a centered (and relatively huge) camera module on the back.

The S7 Edge defies convention by featuring the now-famous edge-style display, which extends around the front of the phone and wraps around both sides of the device.

The G6 is, on the other hand, a little different — and definitely more in line with what we would expect in 2017.

The phone’s display has rounded corners, which is a fascinating and modern-looking touch, but what’s truly interesting is that the display spans a whopping 80 percent of the front of the phone’s surface area.

While it doesn’t quite reach the heights of the Xiaomi Mi Mix, it does look really great — and is comparable to what we may expect from the Galaxy S8.

On the back, the G6 has a beautiful dual-camera module.

Overall, the Galaxy S7 models and the LG G6 appear to be very comparable.

The G6’s metal frame is thicker and more durable, giving it a more solid feel in your palm.

The S7 Edge is the most visually appealing of the three, but the difference isn’t significant.

The glass is very brittle and attracts fingerprints.

Despite its large screen, the G6’s greatest achievement is its compact body size.

It’s particularly comfortable to grip because of its tiny body, which is almost entirely screen.

This is aided by the extra-tall 18:9 display, as opposed to the standard 16:9 widescreen dimensions, albeit LG has special modes available to display apps, games, and video in full-screen mode without visible stretching.

LG chose an IPS display for this Quad HD panel, but even though it’s LCD rather than the increasingly popular OLED, there’s one huge advantage: HDR.

Yes, the G6 supports HDR, including Dolby Vision and HDR10.

You’ll be able to watch Netflix with a significantly broader color range, for example, which might propel this screen to the top of its class.

We’ll have to wait till we can spend more time with the LG G6 and compare them, but Samsung may come out on top in this comparison.

At least until the release of the Galaxy S8 later this spring.

The new LG G6 has a 3,300mAh battery, which is a good size. The Galaxy S7 has a little lower capacity 3,000mAh battery, however, the Galaxy S7 Edge has a whopping 3,600mAh.

Of course, it’s not just about the battery; it’s also about how quickly that battery charges and the LG G6 wins here.

The phone employs Qualcomm’s latest Quick Charge 3.0 technology, which is somewhat faster and more efficient than the Quick Charge 2.0 technology seen in Galaxy phones.

Wireless charging is also available on the G6 in the United States, as well as on both Galaxy S7 variants.

It’s difficult to find anything noteworthy to criticize about the Galaxy S7’s rear camera.

It’s undeniably one of the best smartphone shooters on the market today, and our wonderful readers chose it as the best of the group against other top devices last summer.

Although it has been reduced to 12 megapixels from 16MP on the Galaxy S6, the camera on the S7 and S7 Edge boasts bigger google pixel xl to collect more light and a wider f/1.7 aperture, all of which promises better low-light results.

Overall, the Galaxy S7 performs admirably in practically all shooting settings.

To be honest, the LG G5 wasn’t far behind, and its two-camera rear array – which offered numerous field of vision options – was a standout feature of the android smartphone device.

The LG G6 takes things a step further by leveling the playing field between the two rear cameras, providing both the 71° and 125° cameras with 13 megapixels to work with.

With the addition of phase detection autofocus, the G6 should be one of the best phone cameras available in the Samsung galaxy s series.

Will it outperform the Galaxy S7? We can’t wait to find out by bothering everyone with constant photos.

6. Benefits: Get in Gear

Both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the LG G6 can boast two now-standard flagship features: IP68 water resistance (as previously noted) and microSD support.

Good. Everything was settled there. Both contain fingerprint scanners, with Samsung’s on the bottom and LG’s on the rear.

What comes after that?

The Galaxy S7 has wowed us with its battery life, which is powered by a 3,000mAh cell on the base model and a 3,600mAh cell on the larger S7 Edge.

The LG G6 is in the center, with a 3,300mAh battery pack, but it has a larger screen than either of the Galaxy alternatives.

So we’ll have to wait and see how that plays out in terms of long-term viability.

7. Software

The phones all come with or can be upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat, which means you’ll have access to wonderful features like split-screen multitasking.

While both devices are capable of running Android 7.0, they offer completely distinct add-on functionality.

For example, the LG G6 is the first non-Google phone to support Google Assistant, which had previously been exclusive to the Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL.

It’s worth noting that Google Assistant is slated to arrive shortly on all Android phones running Android Marshmallow or later, but we don’t know when it will arrive on the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge – therefore, ironically, the G6 has “the edge” in the personal assistant department.

There are some significant differences between Samsung’s TouchWiz and LG’s user interface. TouchWiz is notorious for including a lot of Samsung’s proprietary software, whereas GUI is a touch lighter on what you may call bloatware.

GUI makes use of the screen’s 18:9 (2:1) aspect ratio with gorgeous and symmetric design features.

Furthermore, because it is newer, the LG G6 is likely to be supported via upgrades for a longer period of time.

LG is unquestionably the victor.

8. Durability

At first appearance, you would think that the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, and LG G6 are all equally sturdy.

After all, all three phones have IP68 certification, which means they are dust and waterproof for up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes.

You won’t want to swim with them, but if you drop them in the bath, you should be alright.

In actuality, though, the LG G6 is likely to survive far longer than its Samsung equivalents.
