There are numerous reasons why your Android phone may feel obnoxious, but Bixby’s presence on your Samsung device is most likely at the top of the list. Here’s how to turn off the annoying feature on any phone and operating system.

WHAT EXACTLY IS BIXBY?

Samsung Bixby is an attempt to create a voice assistant to compete with Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, and Google’s Assistant. Samsung is the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer, and it also has a successful home electronics line, so it’s not surprising that it would try to develop a voice interface to connect them all.

The features of Bixby are very similar to those of other voice assistants. You can inquire about the weather, set alarms or timers, make phone calls, send text messages, translate languages, do math, change your phone’s settings, or create multi-step routines.

However, all Samsung phones run Android, and most people prefer Google Assistant as their voice assistant because it answers general-purpose internet queries better. Although Google Assistant can launch apps and make phone calls, it cannot change your phone’s settings.

Note that this is almost same with Samsung Galaxy s9, Samsung Galaxy s20, Samsung galaxy s8, Samsung Galaxy s22, Samsung Galaxy s21, and Samsung galaxy z flip.

Bixby is included with the Galaxy S8 and subsequent flagship Samsung phones, as well as mid-range phones with model numbers ranging from A50 to A90. Many of those phones have a Bixby button that is either confusingly close to the volume buttons or replaces the power button, which is why many people want to get rid of Bixby.

The Bixby button is located on the right side of the Galaxy S22, S21, S20, and Note 20 phones, and on the left side of the Note 10 phones. It also serves as the phone’s power button. Long-pressing that button activates Bixby, but you might just want it to be your power button. Here’s how to completely disable Bixby on that button.

How to Turn Off the Bixby Button:

  • Swipe down to bring up the notifications menu, then tap on the power icon in the top right corner of the screen.
  • The power menu, as well as the Side Key settings selection, should appear on the screen. To proceed, tap on it.
  • The settings, which include the Press and Hold options, should be visible. Wake Bixby is enabled by default, but you can disable Bixby by tapping on the Power off menu selection instead.

  • Change the setting for Automatic Listening to Never.
  • Select Voice. Turn on and off your computer. Wake Hello, Bixby
  • Disable Use While Phone Is Locked
  • Disable Bixby Dictation.
  • Change the Bixby Key to Double Press to Open Bixby.
  • Disable Marketing Notification
  • Hold down on your home screen.
  • Swipe to the left.
  • Bixby Home should be turned off.

That should be sufficient. You’re probably switching from Bixby to Google Assistant, but if you want to completely voice assistant-free, we also have instructions for How to Turn Off Google Assistant.

HOW TO DISABLE THE (SOME) BIXBY BUTTON ON OLDER GALAXY PHONES?

How to Change the Side Button on Older Samsung Galaxy Phones:

  • Navigate to the Settings menu.
  • Scroll to the bottom and select Advanced Features.
  • Select the Bixby Key option.
  • Finally, press the Double Press button to access the Bixby selection.
  • You can also customize what happens with a single press.

How to talk to Bixby

Bixby Voice is most likely the most useful Bixby feature for most people. It’s a simple way to ask your phone a question without first unlocking it. Some people dislike Bixby Voice – Google Assistant is far more useful in certain situations – and thankfully, it’s simple to disable.

How to Turn Off “Hi, Bixby”:

  • Launch the Bixby app.
  • Select the three-dot menu option.
  • Navigate to the Settings menu.
  • Select Voice Wake Up from the menu.

If you want to remove the Bixby Home menu pane completely, press down on a blank section of the home screen until the OS’s various menu panes appear. Then, in the top right corner, toggle the Bixby Home pane off to remove it.

Is it possible to disable Bixby?

Navigate to the Settings menu. Select Voice Wake Up from the menu. Turn off the Wake with “Hi, Bixby” option. If it’s turned off, you can turn it back on here.

What happens if you remove Bixby?

Nothing will occur. At this point, Samsung’s assistant is still fully functional, and you can activate it with your voice or by swiping over to Bixby Home, which is located to the left of your main home screen. Again, it’s worth giving Bixby a spin to see how you like it.

Is Bixby necessary?

The thing with Bixby is that it’s not really horrible-it’s just unnecessary. Anything Bixby can do, Assistant can do better. Bixby Vision was arguably its most useful feature, but with the rise of Google Lens, even that isn’t so useful anymore. Sorry, Samsung.
